I was so excited that this commercial for JuneShine aired during this year's super bowl! JuneShine is a canned cocktail and kombucha company that prides itself on its quality ingredients. This commercial shoot was a wild ride from start to finish! Let’s dive in, shall we?
June Shine
Every morning for three days I arrived at 4:30 AM on location at the top of Lookout Mountain, in a parking lot where I then had to be shuttled to the swanky 1960’s house that looked out over the valley. Fun Fact: this was the very same house that I worked in for my first commercial over a decade ago. The pool, which is where we did a majority of our filming, was incredible! The downside to this fabulous location was this was filmed mid-December; and, therefore, it was 27 degrees each day.
The hair and makeup looks we planned for were elevated but natural. Most of our actors were in summer pool party attire, donning bathing suits, sandals, sarongs…you get the idea. In between each take, we would rush in and wrap them in coats and blankets, carry in heaters and wipe runny noses while trying to conceal redness on the face and body from the cold. Not a single person complained and even through the cold, everyone was having a blast.
The funniest moment for me was having to cart in and stand on a 2 foot apple box anytime I needed to touch up our scuba diver because he was almost 7 feet tall (compared to my 5 feet 4 inches). It looked like a comical circus act every time I needed to rush in for touch ups.
Overall this was an incredible shoot to be a part of. To see this full commercial spot, go to my Instagram and watch the entire thing!
Tips
When working outside you ALWAYS need to consider the elements. For this shoot, since I knew it was going to be cold, I packed tons of Hot Hands and Hot Feet for each of my actors. And always pack a parka! I don't care what the forecast is, if it rains, if the wind chill is colder than you thought, you'll be glad you have it.
